My first response to Alex’s article is that I completely agree with him. When he talks about how the internet has helped the Classical Music Business, as he seems to consider it one unified business, he speaks the truth. itunes, in particular, has allowed more people, especially those poor college students, to access and afford one, two, or three concertos or quartets. He also discusses how the internet, mainly blogs and access to music reviews, allows more and more people to discover new music. Nowadays, you can read a blog about a concert that’s so detailed and full of juicy description that you might even imagine you went! This is the perfect example of him saying that things on the internet almost always seem more important than they actually are. I enjoyed Roth’s opinion all in all and have thought about what he says many times after downloading song after song on itunes… the classical music culture, especially many not be as popular as the pop music culture, but it has made tremendous strides from the good ole’ radio.
